MISSOULA, Mont. — A Missoula Special Olympics athlete is being recognized as the Special Olympics Montana 2021 Athlete of the Year. The annual award is given to an athlete with a willingness to help others, outstanding courage and sportsmanship.
DJ Jackson of Missoula is this year’s recipient. He has been part of the organization for more than 16 years, competing in bowling, bocce, track and field, swimming, and basketball.
He is also involved in fundraising and volunteering in the Special Olympics Montana community.
Jackson was nominated by several volunteers. Kim Foust, a volunteer for Special Olympics Montana in the Missoula area said, “DJ's love of Special Olympics Montana shines through his dedication to his team.”
He was presented with the award at a special event earlier this week in Missoula.
