Missoula gets new fire chief
MISSOULA, Mont. —
On Monday the Missoula City Council confirmed Jeff Brandt as the new fire chief.
The former fire chief retired in June.
Brandt started his fire career in 1982 as a part-time volunteer and was hired by the Missoula Fire Department in 1992.
For the last six years Brandt has been the department’s assistant chief of operations.
“My dad was a firefighter and grew up in that life. He was a volunteer firefighter, but it’s something I always wanted to do and knew since the beginning. There's an excitement of the thrill of being in a fire and obviously the ability to help the community out,” Brandt said.
The city says Brandt will be paid close to $123,000 a year, the same as the previous chief.
