Montana's 2022 top baby names revealed

MISSOULA, Mont. — CouponBirds analyzed Social Security Administration data and found Montana's most common boy name was William in 2022 and the top girl name was Olivia. Henry and Theodore were other top boy names along with Charlotte and Harper as top girl names.

Maverick made the top ten for boys and has been in the top 100 most popular boy names since 2015. Maverick was also a top ten name in Alaska, Hawaii, North Dakota, Oklahoma and West Virginia.

The rise in popularity could be due to the last year's release of the hit movie "Top Gun: Maverick."

Montana's top 10 most popular baby names of 2022 have been revealed – and Maverick was the 10th most popular baby boy name last year.

By analysing data from the Social Security Administration for every U.S. state, CouponBirds discovered that Maverick has been in Montana's top 100 most popular boys' names since 2015 — placing at 74th in 2015, outside the top 100 in 2016, 20th in 2017, 20th in 2018, 37th in 2019, 19th in 2020, and 10th in 2021.

Maverick also made the top 10 baby boy names in five other states in 2022: Alaska, Hawaii, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and West Virginia.

This rise in popularity could be due to the release last year of Top Gun: Maverick – the sequel to the 1986 movie Top Gun, featuring fighter pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell played by Tom Cruise.
