MISSOULA, Mont. — A new poll by CNN finds more Americans blame President Donald Trump for the partial government shutdown.
It found 55 percent of Americans surveyed blame the president. Of the Americans surveyed, 32 percent blame Democrats in Congress. Some of the people didn’t place blame on either side, 9 percent said both sides are responsible.
President Trump has been placing blame on the Democrats for not giving him the funding he wants for the wall. He is asking for $5.7 billion to build the wall. Democrats are blaming the president and Republicans in Congress for the shutdown.
NBC Montana spoke with a few Missoulians who say they’re just tired of the partisan gridlock.
“I think it’s not a specific individual,” Julianna Jack said. “The partisanship we’ve been experiencing has been part of a deeper systemic issue and I think that it more largely comes down to having representatives on both sides that are not in government to actually represent their constituents.”
Missoulian Christopher Abell said nothing will change until Democrats and Republicans start working together.
“Partisan politics has completely wrecked everything,” Abell said. “It seems like both sides are just digging in their heels and there’s absolutely no attempt at all to reconcile or try to make things work.”
