MISSOULA, Mont. -- Cheyenne police say a Greeley, Colorado man accused of walking too close to Old Faithful in Yellowstone last week is now behind bars in Cheyenne.
Officers say Gabriel Villalva, 27, wouldn’t stop. The Cheyenne Police Department posted a picture of the SUV we’re told he was driving. Investigators say it caught on fire after he slammed into a police car.
Officials say they fired bean bag rounds at him and finally arrested him.
"We don't have a clear motive or anything to it," says Cheyenne Police Department spokesperson Kevin Malatesta. "I can say one of the things he was arrested on is DUI. We suspect that controlled substances and alcohol may have been a contributing factor in this."
Officer Malatesta says the department is waiting on results from a blood test.
We're told that will help determine if Villalva was on drugs when it happened.
He is in jail tonight.
Villalva faces four citations and is accused of walking too close to the geyser and refusing to listen when told to step back.
