The SpaceX Crew Polaris Dawn will be stationed and training out of the Bozeman airport starting this Thursday.

Officials say increased flight activity will be noticeable from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until the training ends on Sept. 18.

Aircraft include L-39s, Alpha Jets and MiG-29s flying in formation over Belgrade, Bozeman and surrounding areas.

It's all part of the Polaris Dawn crew training to prepare for their mission to space that takes place later this year.

SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket will launch the Polaris Dawn mission from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and the crew will spend up to five days in orbit

They are aiming toward four objectives:

  • High altitude
  • First commercial spacewalk
  • Health impact research
  • In-space communications
