FLATHEAD VALLEY, Mont. - A cyberattack that canceled more than 30 schools for three days in the Flathead has prompted officials to review school district computer security and ways to improve communication.
It comes after some parents weren't notified last week that school was canceled until their children were already on the school bus.
"From my point of view the most challenging thing was making sure everybody was communicated with. Making sure you had the right email address, the right phone numbers and just making sure that everybody including all the private schools were included in all of the updates," said Flathead County Schools Superintendent Jack Eggensperger.
On top of updating software and online security each individual school district is responsible for maintaining contact information and creating an effective way of communicating emergencies to parents and guardians.
As the investigation continues officials ask that parents contact their child's school and make sure they have the most recent contact information on file.
