Search for armed suspect underway in Bozeman Pass area

Quinn Creek area of Bozeman Pass search for suspect

Gallatin County officials are searching for an armed man who was involved in a shootout with officers on Quinn Creek Road near Bozeman Pass.

Officers are looking for 36-year-old Shaunesy Cole, who ran away after the shootout Monday night or early Tuesday between Bozeman and Livingston.

Park County Undersheriff Clay Herbst says someone had reported a possible drunk driver on Interstate 90 east of Livingston. Shaunesy Cole pulled over, but then drove off.

The pursuit headed west and Cole eventually left the interstate and turned onto a dirt road between Livingston and Bozeman. Officers say he fired shots from the vehicle early Wednesday, causing officers to back off.

A woman who was in the vehicle with Cole was apprehended several hours later, but Herbst said Cole fled into a wooded area with numerous houses and outbuildings.

Cole is 5-foot-11, 170 lbs with a red mohawk haircut. The mohawk is pressed down. He has numerous tattoos on his legs, arms and hands.

Law enforcement is actively searching for Cole, who is possibly armed and dangerous.

Officials advise everyone in the area is to remain inside their houses with their doors locked and do not open your doors.

Law enforcement is currently searching the area and will be moving around the houses.

Daniel Nadler said he woke up early Wednesday morning and learned the dangerous suspect who loose near his home.

"Everybody up here--we have our weapons for protection," Nadler said. "There's a lot of woods back here. It's gonna be difficult to find him. I think he's moved on from this area."

Law enforcement says do not approach Cole and call 911 if you see him.

Department of Corrections records indicate Cole was convicted of assaulting a Park County officer in 2001. He also has convictions for a 2005 escape and a 2009 theft.
