The Somers/Lakeside Fire Department has responded to a small fire.

Firefighters were called out for a smoke investigation off of Blacktail Road Tuesday night.

They found approximately 1/4 acre on fire near the Baldy area with burning understory, grass and fire creeping up several trees.

Crews were able to stop the forward movement of the fire, and by the time the USFS and MT DNRC arrived, they assisted in establishing a perimeter.

The local team turned the scene over to the USFS and DNRC and left the area.

The cause of the fire is not known, but there were reports of people shooting in that general area.

With the hot and dry weather we’ve been having, firefighters are stressing you to be careful out there.

They warn that even a ricocheting bullet can create enough spark to start a smoldering fire that may not flare up until the area is left!
