Shodair Children’s Hospital is starting their 2nd Annual Suicide Prevention Contest.

It’s $10,000 worth of scholarship money for ages 13 to 18.

Participants can submit an essay, video or visual artwork that captures how they deal with mental health.

This year’s theme is, “COVID-19 has us all wearing masks, but many of us are wearing a different kind of mask. What kind of mask are you hiding behind and what can we do to help others remove any shame associated with mental illness?”

“The intention really is to break down stigma to get people to be more comfortable talking about mental health and suicide prevention so that there’s no shame attached to it,” said Chief communications officer for Shodair Alana Listoe.

Applications must be submitted by Sept. 15.

Visit the contest website here.

If you or someone you know needs help, call the Suicide Prevention line at 1-800-273-8255.
