The new call center in the Butte Plaza Mall will open in early May, according to mall officials.

The center is replacing the former JCPenney’s store, which closed in 2014.

On-site manager Alana Ferko tells NBC Montana that she’s happy to see a new business come into the mall.

“Yeah, you know things will be better, this is just the start of a better year for the mall,” Ferko said.

Last year, the mall lost two large retailers, Herberger’s and Payless Shoes.

The new call center is owned by an Oregon-based company called FCR. The company has several other locations in the U.S., including Great Falls.

Katheryn Carnahan, the company’s president, says they chose the Butte Plaza Mall to help it get back on its feet.

“One of the things that’s important to us as a company is helping small, rural communities revitalize,” Carnahan said.

Carnahan says by adding up to 350 jobs, it could prompt other businesses to open in the mall.

Ferko says that’s something that might be in the near future.

“When the dust settles, people would like to come and take a look at a couple of our spaces,” Ferko said.

She says hiring will start as early as March.
