WASHINGTON (SBG) - One idea gaining momentum in the 2020 Democratic presidential race is expanding the Supreme Court.

Since taking office, President Trump has appointed two justices to the Supreme Court, Neil McGill Gorsuch and Brett Michael Kavanaugh, tilting the court to the right.

Several 2020 Democratic presidential candidates believe the high court has become too partisan and are signaling they are open to reshaping it by adding more justices to the bench.

“Some have proposed, do you want five Democrat justices and five Republican justices and those ten then choose another five justices between them? I like the creativity behind that,” said Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke.

The push comes nearly three years after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked former president Barack Obama’s supreme court nominee Merrick Garland.

Democrats felt cheated.

And Republicans see the latest move as revenge.

President Trump threw cold water on the idea Tuesday.

“The only reason is that they’re doing that is they want to try and catch up so if they can’t catch up through the ballot box by winning an election, they want to try doing it in a different way,” said Trump.

Recent results from a scottrasmussen.com poll show more than 60 percent of voters approve the way the court is doing its job and just 42 percent like the idea of expanding the court.

“I believe if you’re a Democrat running for president today you almost have to support a call to increase the supreme court if you want to win the nomination, because to the active base this is a critical issue, said Scott Rasmussen.

Right now, it’s a debate on the campaign trail.

Ultimately, it would up to Congress to make changes to the court which means Democrats would have to control both the House, Senate and most likely retake the White House.
