New aerial footage shows rebuilding progress on Sperry Chalet
MISSOULA, Mont. —
The Glacier National Park Conservancy is sharing new aerial footage of the rebuilding of Sperry Chalet. The video shows that roof beams are going into place. Crews will continue working as long as the weather allows. They hope to keep working through the end of October.
Firefighting teams had to hack out trails for pack mules to carry up a lot of the materials workers are using to rebuild the chalet.
The Sprague Fire destroyed most of the backcountry dormitory more than a year ago. Only the stone walls survived. Glacier National Park built the chalet in 1914 to house visitors coming into Glacier National Park on the railway.
