MISSOULA, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation announced Beartooth Highway is open for the season.
Officials remind travelers road and weather conditions can change due to higher elevations, which can cause temporary closures during the summer.
They advise visitors to check the MDT 511 map for the latest updates on road conditions, closures and more.
The Montana Department of Transportation shared a photo of JD the Beartooth Highway Bear to celebrate the event.

JD the Beartooth Highway Bear is excited to share that the Beartooth Highway (US 212) is open for the season!
Remember that conditions can change very quickly, and unpredictable weather at these high elevations does cause temporary closures throughout the summer.
