Bozeman lacrosse is gearing up for a weekend of nonstop action as they host the Montana High School Lacrosse Association state tournament.

The boys won five of the last six tournaments and are looking to defend their home turf this weekend.

Many teams reach the lacrosse state tournament with a goal of taking home a title, and for Bozeman lacrosse this is no different.

“It is always to win a championship, but really it is to be the best version of our own team, which is the toughest part,” assistant coach Casey Rose said at the beginning of the season. “Can we be as efficient as possible on defense and on offense as well as in transition to reach our maximum potential? We focus on ourselves and how we are getting better day by day and week to week.”

This year’s team is undefeated in the regular season and cruising into states as the No. 1 seed in the tournament.

Goalie Austin Baller believes this year’s team is special.

“This whole team has been together for so long, and it has been a really special group with us playing through true grit, and we have really had a huge focus on culture,” he said. “We set out to change the culture of Bozeman lacrosse when we got here and have a totally different program than when we did four years ago.”

Now Baller and his team are faced with the task of defending their home turf, as each game of the state tournament will be held in locations around Bozeman.

The games will be held Saturday and Sunday on Montana State’s campus at the Lambert turf fields at West Lincoln Street and South 19th Avenue, Dyche Field on West Kagy Boulevard and Bobcat Stadium.
