Bozeman's Hamilton wins Gatorade award

Duncan Hamilton, a senior at Bozeman High School, competes at the Montana Cross Country Class AA State Meet in Helena on Oct. 21, 2017.

The Bozeman High cross country program is the most dominant in the state of Montana, and it continues to show well after the end of the season.

Senior Duncan Hamilton is the 2017-18 Gatorade Montana Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year, becoming the fourth Bozeman Hawk to win the boys award. Fellow senior Camila Noe won the girls award two weeks ago.

Hamilton earned Second Team All-America status after finishing 11th at the Nike Cross Nationals Final. He finished second at the Nike Northwest Regional Championships, where he ran a state record 5K time of 15:16.9.

Hamilton also finished second at the Montana Class AA State Meet, leading Bozeman to a 10th straight team title.

Outside of cross country, the National Honors Society member has maintained a weighted 4.22 GPA, and earned Eagle Scout status after volunteering for multiple community service initiatives through the Boy Scouts of America.

Hamilton will be running cross country on scholarship at Montana State University in the fall.
