Jesse Sims selected as new number 37 for Griz football
For the first time ever, the legacy No. 37 jersey for Montana football belongs to a player from the Bitterroot Valley. At halftime of Saturday's spring game, the Griz announced Stevensville product Jesse Sims will wear the honored number to represent Montana this season.
Only Montana natives are eligible to be selected for the jersey that is said to stand for toughness and dedication to the team.
Griz defensive end and Malta native Tucker Schye passed the tradition on to Sims, who is entering his redshirt junior season at defensive tackle. He is the fourth straight defensive lineman to wear the No. 37 jersey.
Sims returns as the fourth-leading tackler from last year's team. As a sophomore, he tallied 43 tackles, six tackles for a loss and 3.5 sacks.
