BOZEMAN, Mont. — The last time the Bobcats won a second-round game in the Big Sky tournament was 2009. On Thursday, Montana St. will face the Eagles of Eastern Washington, who ended their regular season on a high note.
EWU won their last three games, one of the wins being against Weber State, who Montana State fell to twice in league play this season, and they received a first-round bye, which gave them more time to prepare.
Montana State is on shortened rest and will also have to continue to play without junior point guard Ladan Ricketts. Ricketts suffered a calf injury late in the Bobcats' season finale against Portland State.
Without Ricketts, who averaged 9.9 points and shot 45.7 percent from 3 in almost 24 minutes per game, MSU will have to continue to lean on other key players, including their leading scoring duo, Tyler Hall and Harald Frey.
Eastern Washington is led by senior forward Jesse Hunt, who is averaging 14.6 points per game and leads the Big Sky in rebounding. However, the Eagles still only rank ninth in the conference in scoring and fifth in defense.
Tip-off is slated for approximately 8 p.m.
