Grizzlies win tournament title 82-65 over Eastern Washington
The Montana men's basketball team is headed to the NCAA Tournament title for the first time since 2013 after defeating Eastern Washington 82-65 Saturday night in the Big Sky Conference Tournament championship game in Reno, Nevada.
For the first half it felt like the Eagles, who were one of just two teams to defeat Montana in league play during the regular season, might be the ones who would head to the Big Dance. Eastern hit eight threes in the opening half and led 40-29 at the break.
However the Grizzlies answered the bell in the second half to the tune of a 6-for-12 performance from beyond the arc and Montana also shot 50% from the floor in the second half. The biggest factor was Montana's suffocating defense which at one point made 18 stops over the course of 19 Eastern Washington possessions.
Michael Oguine tallied a game-high 21 points to lead the Grizzlies while Ahmaad Rorie chipped in 15 points. Montana's lone senior Fabijan Krslovic recorded a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Grizzlies will find out who they play and where in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament during the selection show on Sunday afternoon.
