MISSOULA, Mont. — There were three battles at Sentinel's gym between the Knights of Hellgate and the host Spartans: The battle of the boys, the clash of the girls, and the one that seemed to be the most important, who would take home Gertie the Goat.
If you don't know Gertie, he's the trophy goat awarded to the school with the most spirit, and not only did Hellgate dominate the boys game 64-34, and comeback to win the girls game 40-31, but they took home Gertie as well. A clean sweep for the Knights.
In the boys game, it was all Knights from the beginning, jumping out to a 35-16 lead. Then they kept running it up in the third, holding Sentinel without a basket for over six minutes to start the half.
The Spartans did make an 11-4 run at the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarter, but by that point the game was out of hand, and behind Rollie Worster's 17 points, the Knights won easily.
In girls action, Hellgate scored nine points within the first few minutes, but Sentinel's defense held fast, not allowing another point for the rest of the first quarter and more than a half of the second quarter.
Meanwhile, the Spartan posts started to put the game on their back, scoring 13 straight to take the lead into the half. But Hellgate turned it back around in the second, took the lead and didn't look back, taking the game and the sweep of rivalry night.
