Montana breaks school record in opening round of Lady Griz Classic
MISSOULA, Mont. —
Since the NCAAW switched from halves to quarters, the Montana Grizzlies record for 1st quarter points was 26. That changed on Saturday in an offensive explosion.
Montana hit three three pointers, and had one basket-and-the-foul for 10 points. But the other 18 points came off nine baskets, and at least seven of those came off assists.
The quarter ended on an incredible Gabi Harrington reverse layup with just a couple seconds remaining, which was the record breaking basket.
Montana actually lost the rest of the game by two, but its fantastic first quarter gave them a comfortable enough lead that they still won by 16, 86-70.
Montana will play UC Davis on Sunday in the Lady Griz Tournament Championship.
