Montana St. prepares for opening round matchup with Vandals

It’s been a long season for the Montana State Bobcats, but they are hoping to make it longer with a win over the Idaho Vandals in the first round of the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball tournament.

The Vandals don’t have one senior, and their inexperience is part of the reason they went 2-18 in conference play. But Montana St. head coach Brian Fish still sees them as a threat.

“They’re doing a few things differently, but mostly their young players are getting better and better. They are a well-coached team that plays hard,” said Fish.

Trevon Allen’s 13 points per game leads the Vandals.

The Bobcats’ advantage against Idaho in both conference contests were their rebounding skills, and Coach Fish knows that will be the key to victory on Wednesday.

“When we’ve rebounded we’ve given ourselves a chance. That’s been the most important factor for this team.”

This will be the first Big Sky Tournament meeting between the Vandals and the Bobcats since Idaho rejoined the conference four years ago.

Tip-off is at approximately 2:30 pm.
