Montana wins Lady Griz Classic in comeback fashion
MISSOULA, Mont. —
The Montana Grizzlies trailed by six entering the final quarter of the Lady Griz Classic. UC Davis was making three after three and couldn't seem to miss. They had all the momentum. That changed about halfway through the final quarter.
The constant three's that had been falling throughout the second and third quarters stopped dropping in for the Aggies. The layups the Grizzlies had been missing for much of the game started to drop. With 2:58 remaining in the game, the Griz took the lead for the first time in over 25 minutes of action.
But they weren't home free. The Aggies immediately responded with a three to retake the lead, which the Griz answered again.
They continued to power the ball inside, and played suffocating defense, holding onto their lead by a thread. With 52 seconds remaining in the game, Montana banked in a shot from the top of the key as the shot clock expired to go up by three, and after UC Davis missed their following possession, all they had to do was hit their free throws.
The Griz would go on to win by six, 62-56. Mackenzie Johnston was named to the All-Tournament team, and Jace Henderson the tournaments MVP.
