MISSOULA, Mont. -- The Howe Ridge fire is only active in a few isolated areas and is holding at 12, 423 acres.
However, the latest detailed report gives perspective on how close the flames are to Going -to-the-Sun Road.
Fire managers are reporting that The Howe Ridge Fire is around 150 to 300 feet from Going-to-the-Sun Road at its closest point.
Pumps, hoses and sprinklers are protecting Going-to-the-Sun Road, and structures along Avalanche Creek and North McDonald Road.
It has not crossed containment lines at Upper McDonald Creek.
Evacuation orders are still up for North McDonald Road, the Lake McDonald Lodge area, Going-to-the-Sun Road on the west side, Sprague Creek, Avalanche and Fish Creek.
